Terms of use

Last updated: 29 October 2026

In short: Plainpage is free. Only use it on documents you have the right to work with, check your results, keep your originals, and understand that it’s provided as it is.

1. Who we are

Plainpage (plainpage.novasite.co.za) is owned and operated by Nova Site, a web design studio in Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa (“Nova Site”, “we”, “us” or “our”). Contact us at info@novasite.co.za or +27 75 947 9549.

2. Accepting these terms

By using Plainpage you agree to these Terms of Use, our Privacy Policy and our Disclaimer. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site. If you’re under 18, please read these terms with a parent or guardian.

3. The service

Plainpage provides free tools for working with PDF files and images. The tools run in your browser, on your device. You don’t need an account, and there’s no paid version. We may change, add or remove tools, or suspend or stop the site, at any time without notice. We don’t promise that the site will always be available or free of errors.

4. Your documents and your responsibilities

  • Your files stay yours. We never receive them and claim no rights over them.
  • Only use documents you’re entitled to use. You’re responsible for having the right to view, change, convert, combine or share any document you process, including copyrighted material and other people’s personal information.
  • Passwords: only remove passwords or restrictions from documents you own or have permission to change. Plainpage needs you to enter the password, and doesn’t attempt to bypass or guess it.
  • Signatures: only sign documents as yourself, or with clear authority from the person whose signature you add.
  • Check your results and keep your originals. Plainpage always saves a new file and never changes the one you chose, but you’re responsible for checking the output before relying on it or sharing it, especially redactions, conversions, OCR text and compressed images.

5. Fair use

You agree not to use Plainpage for anything unlawful, including fraud, forgery or infringing anyone’s rights; not to try to hack, disrupt or overload the site or the systems it runs on; not to copy, scrape or mirror the site in bulk, or frame it or present it as your own; and not to remove copyright or attribution notices.

6. Intellectual property

The Plainpage name and logo, and the site’s design, text and code, belong to Nova Site, except for the open-source components listed on our open-source licences page, which are used under their own licences. You may use the tools for any personal, educational or business purpose, and share links to any page. Copying or republishing the site or its content otherwise needs our written permission. Other names and trademarks belong to their owners and are used only to identify them.

7. Results

Plainpage aims for accurate, high-quality results, but some tasks are approximate by nature: OCR can misread text, PDF to Word gives editable text rather than an exact layout, compression reduces image quality at stronger levels, and some PDFs are damaged or unusual enough that a tool can’t process them. Signatures added with Plainpage are visible signature images, not certificate-based digital signatures.

Plainpage links to other websites, including Nova Site and the projects listed on our licences page. We aren’t responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices.

9. No warranties

Plainpage is provided free of charge, “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent allowed by law, we make no promises or warranties of any kind, express or implied, about the site, the tools or their results, including that they are accurate, complete, reliable, fit for a particular purpose, uninterrupted, or free of viruses or other harmful components.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Nova Site and its owners, employees and contractors aren’t liable for any loss or damage of any kind, whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, that arises from your use of, or inability to use, Plainpage. This includes loss or corruption of data or documents, loss of income or profit, and loss arising from relying on any output, such as an incomplete redaction, a misread OCR result or an altered layout.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability, or any right you have, that can’t be excluded or limited by law, including under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 where it applies to you.

11. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify Nova Site against claims, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from your breach of these terms or your use of Plainpage on documents you weren’t entitled to use.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If you keep using Plainpage after a change, you accept the updated terms.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and the courts of South Africa have jurisdiction over any dispute about them. This doesn’t take away any rights you have under the consumer laws of the country you live in.

14. General

If any part of these terms is found to be invalid, the rest remains in force. If we don’t enforce a right straight away, we haven’t given it up. These terms, with the Privacy Policy and Disclaimer, are the whole agreement between you and Nova Site about Plainpage.
